How to Use Burst in The Strongest Battlegrounds

Your anti-gang button—fill under multi-attacker damage, then break out clean.

Burst Guide

Burst is the defensive escape tool built for The Strongest Battlegrounds’ messy multiplayer reality. When several players hit you at once, a Burst meter beside your ultimate gauge fills. Once it is full, press R on PC to release a shockwave that knocks nearby enemies back and breaks combos. It is not filled by your own offense—only by overlapping incoming damage from multiple sources—so treating Burst like another attack resource will leave you empty in the exact pileups it was designed for.

If you are still learning solo fundamentals, keep Getting Started and Blocking and Defense in rotation. Burst does not replace block, dash, or neutral; it rescues you when those tools are already overwhelmed.

How the meter actually fills

Watch the Burst bar during public lobby chaos. Single 1v1 exchanges usually will not charge it quickly because the system looks for multi-attacker pressure. Two or three players stuffing skills and M1s into you is the classic fill condition. That means:

  • In pure 1v1 ranked, Burst may rarely appear as a factor—your defense is still block, dash, and movement (How to Play Ranked).
  • In 2v2, 3v3, or free-for-all, Burst is often the difference between surviving a collapse and feeding a chain of wall confirms.

Do not try to “farm” Burst on purpose by standing in bad positions. Farm better spacing instead, and let the meter be a byproduct of inevitable team pressure.

What Burst does on activation

A full Burst spend typically:

  • Fires a shockwave that pushes nearby opponents out of point-blank range.
  • Breaks the combo or grab pressure you were stuck in.
  • Buys camera and movement time to side dash, back dash, or block.

It will not win the round by itself. After the knockback, you must choose: disengage to reset HP lead, contest one weakened opponent, or hold space until cooldowns return. Greedy M1 mash into three players after Burst is how you refill their meters and empty yours.

When to spend vs when to hold

Spend when:

  • You are locked in a true multi-person string with no ragdoll-cancel left.
  • A wall is behind you and two players are about to steal wall converts (Wall Combo Guide).
  • You are one hit from death and the shockwave is the only way to see the next second.

Hold when:

  • Only one player is on you and you can still block or side dash.
  • Your teammates are about to peel—Bursting early can scatter enemies into better angles for them, but it can also waste the meter before the real collapse.
  • You just Burst a moment ago and the bar is empty—play extra safe; you are in “glass” mode.

Team voice chat helps: call “Burst ready” so allies do not also dump overlapping peels that leave everyone on cooldown.

Character showcase mindset

Burst exists across the roster, but animations and feel differ. Use the embedded mid-article video to see activation and character flavor, then lab the R timing in a private server with friends stacking light pressure. Confirm the keybind on Controls if R conflicts with other habits or mobile layouts.

Remember shared HP: Burst saves percent that every kit values equally. It is not a substitute for learning One-Shot Combos or Ultimate Combos—it is the panic valve that lets you reach those routes later.

Anti-Burst offense (so you are not the one getting shocked)

When you and a teammate collapse on someone:

  • Stagger your skills so you still pressure without perfectly overlapping if you want to avoid filling their Burst too fast—or accept the fill and bait the Burst, then punish the recovery.
  • Avoid greeding wall cinematics if their Burst bar is clearly full; the shockwave can dump you into a counter-convert.
  • After they Burst, do not instant re-dash into the wave’s end—reposition, then re-engage on your terms.

FPS and clarity

Pileups are particle-heavy. If you cannot see the Burst bar or the shockwave windup, apply Settings and FPS (Fast Mode, reduced shake). A missed R because the UI hitch-skipped is still a lost stock in team Elo.

Practice routine

  1. Queue a private server with two friends.
  2. Have both attack you lightly until Burst fills—note how long it takes.
  3. Practice pressing R at three moments: early stack, mid-combo, and near-death.
  4. After each Burst, drill a dedicated escape: back dash, side dash, or block walk toward your team.
  5. Swap roles and practice baiting Burst as the attackers.

Then take the habit into public lobbies and 3v3 Elo. Skim Character Interactions so ultimate clash cutscenes do not confuse your Burst timing. Check Codes on breaks, study Players who excel in team modes, and return to the Guides Hub for the rest of the syllabus. Compare teammate character picks with the Tier List only after Burst discipline is stable.

Burst mastery is patience: fill from real multi-hit danger, spend to break the worst moment, then immediately play the reset. Mash R the first time two people look at you and you will die the next time with an empty bar.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for combat, codes, and ranked play.

How do I activate Burst?

Fill the Burst meter by taking damage from multiple players at once, then press R on PC to release a combo-breaking shockwave.

Does attacking fill Burst?

No. Burst is a defensive meter. It charges from overlapping incoming multi-attacker damage, not from your own hits.

Is Burst important in 1v1 ranked?

Usually less than in team modes. In 1v1, focus on block, dash, and neutral; Burst shines when several players stack you.

Should I Burst as soon as the bar is full?

Not always. Hold for true lock situations or near-death collapses. Spending early can leave you helpless for the next stack.

What should I do after Bursting?

Use the knockback to disengage or re-evaluate. Do not greed M1s into the same group that just filled your meter.
